When we dive into something we’re passionate about, there’s no coming out of it. It’s a good thing though when you work hard for something you want, but it’s not when you forget that you have a life outside what you do.
It’s the same for business owners, especially women who have to juggle through life to meet both professional and household obligations. And somewhere being caught up between the two, they forget themselves.
Therefore, self-care is pivotal for women business owners. It is not only to revitalize your body and mind but to remind yourself that despite being overwhelmed by work, you’re still human. Other than that, your body and mind need a break to perform better and get the peace you often lose in between the ordeal of work and life.
So, give yourself the care you deserve. But, if you don’t know how-to, don’t worry.
This article here is to help you with just that.
Daily self-care tips for women business owners:
1. Make time for things you like
One of the hardest things that you are forced to do when you are an entrepreneur is to let go of things you loved doing. All because work never allowed you time to follow your other passions and so, you abandoned them.
But, do not do that. Never give up on things you like to do. They are more than just your hobbies. They are your safe place where you ought to come back to be your old self again. Remember you are a human being before being a businesswoman. You deserve happiness, and if these things make you happy, you do not have to put a pass on them.
Having said that, I know you must be bounded by time, but it’s not important to do these things at a stated time and date. You can do it whenever you find the time. Even half an hour once a week or so is just enough to keep that grip on your human self.
2. Take breaks
If you think you are being your most productive self if you work for hours at a stretch, you are wrong. You might be able to reach your targets, but you’ll lose your peace of mind in doing so. Moreover, your work quality would be affected too, simply because our mind works the best when it’s fresh.
That’s the importance of taking breaks. Imagine it as if it’s a marathon. You can run at your fastest only for a while. You have to stop and take a rest to gather your stamina to start running again. It works the same with the human mind. It needs breaks too.
By breaks, I do not mean 30 minutes of it post an hour of work. But even a five-ten-minute break after 60-90 minutes is enough.
That’s not all, how you take breaks matters too. If it’s a five-minute social media break to go back to the computer screen, trust me it’s useless. Instead, you can go for a five-minute walk around the block, or walk in your cabin. (It’s better though if you do it in an open space). Trust me, it’s the best way to refresh your mind. You can also do stretches from time to time to awaken your muscles.
3. Have enough sleep
We aren’t new to this work culture and so we all know how it can screw up with our sleeping schedule. But even after being cognizant of the vitality of a healthy sleeping schedule, we take it for granted. I am sure, being a businesswoman, it has become a way of life for you – to come home late, sleep for a while only to wake up earlier, and rush back to work.
But you must realize the fact that it is not healthy. By doing so you are just surviving, not living. Sleeping is important and there should be no excuse to avoid it. You have to take care of yourself for a while and fulfill your body’s demand. After all, you must have heard, bodies are our temple and we need to worship them more.
Draw a line between work and life if you have to. Make it a goal to sleep on time no matter what – even if it involves distancing yourself from your phone and other gadgets. Do not settle for less even here ladies! Make 7-8 hours of sleep your goal!
4. Do not undermine the presence of the sun
You must not be a stranger to the fact that the sun provides you with Vitamin D, which is important for the proper functioning of the body. It increases your immunity and elevates your mood, all of which you require to be productive and healthy.
Therefore, do not be afraid. Sun is not your enemy. However, if you do not find time to go out in the sun being overwhelmed by work. Here are a few options for you.
- Keep your blinds open. Sit near the windows if you have to.
- Take your walks in the sun instead of corridors.
- Make sure you sit by the window at the time of commuting to be in the reaches of sunlight.
5. Have a nutritious diet
You are more likely to order a meal in your office than to cook at your home. Thanks to our social groups or our failure to carry lunch boxes. Nonetheless, eating healthy is important. If you have to work efficiently, then you need to have nutritious meals. When your mind has the nutrients it requires, it functions better. As a result, you have better focus, better concentration, and most importantly a calm mind.
Having said that, always strive to carry your own lunch. You can also carry fruits if you are in a mood of munching instead of going for unhealthy cookies and stuff like that. Socializing can be done even without lunches, so you do not have to worry about that. But if your squad is too adamant on outside junk, make sure you order healthy food.
6. Learn to say no and delegate
People will continue to overwhelm you with work until you tell them not to. Be firm with what you want. If you want to have a few minutes to yourself, don’t take up an extra file. Cut yourself some slack because as I have said before, you’re a human being first.
Lastly,
Being a businesswoman is not easy. There are so many challenges to it. The best way to cope with them is to take care of yourself no matter what. I hope these tips help you do that.
